Hi, For this question, you need to recall that equations that are parallel have the same slopes as the comparable equation. Therefore, in the equation y = 2x - 9, the slope is 2 because the slope is m in the equation y = mx + b, the coefficient of x. Now, in our new equation, the slope is indeed 2 and therefore, we know so far: y = 2x + b Now, we can apply the given point to the above equation and get: 1 = 2(-3) + b Which simplifies down to: 1 = -6 + b b = 7 Therefore, our final answer becomes: y = 2x + 7 <=== FINAL ANSWER I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Did you like the answer? 2x + 3(11/3) = 12 3/1 * 11/3 = 33/3 When multiplying, just multiply across, numerator to numerator and denominator to denominator. (I know I put a 1 under the 3, all whole numbers have a 1 under them) (example : 3/1 = 3) or ( lets say 5 in fraction form is 5/1 ) (Another fraction example 2/5 * 3/4 mult across and you get 2 * 3 = 6 and 5 * 4 = 20 answer 6/20 then, simplify and get 3/10) Now simplify 33/3 = 11 2x + 11 = 12 Now subtract 11 from both sides. and you get 2x = 1 2x = 1 Now divide 2 on both sides and you get x = 1/2 ordered pair is (1/2 , 11/3)

From the given equation, the slope of the line = 2 NOTE - you should be able to figure out why the slope of the given line is 2. Since the other line is parallel to the given line, the its slope is also equal to 2. Thus being said, 2 = (y - 1)/(x - -3) 2(x + 3) = y - 1 2x + 6 = y - 1 Rearranging the above and simplifying, y = 2x + 7 --- this is the equation of the line that satisfies the conditions of the problem.

In y=mx+b, m is the slope. Parallel lines have the SAME slope So, you have y=2x-9. The slope is 2. So, your equation for your new line will have slope 2 We need to use the slope-point form to find the new equation slope-point form: y-y1=m(x-x1) Put your points(-3,1) and slope(2) into that y-1=2(x-(-3)) y-1=2(x+3);y-1=2x+6 y=2x+7

The equation is in point slope form, so lines with the slope of two are parallel. You need to find a new value for b, other than 9. 1 = 2 (-3) + b 7 = b the equation is: y = 2x + 7

the equation that is parallel to y = 2x -9 will have the same slope; in this case, m =2 so, for the point (-3, 1) with m = 2, we have y - 1 = 2(x+3) y - 1 = 2x + 6 y = 2x + 7 good luck!

With substitution it becomes a quadratic. Let u = w² and rewrite as: u² + 7u - 18 = 0 (u+9)(u-2) = 0 u = -9 and 2 = w² w = ±3i and ±√2
