This answer may be a little different than what you were expecting, but as someone who has been fighting the battle of the bulge for quite a while I thought you should consider some of the points made in the following article.
Obesity More Complex Than We Think?
10 Possible Causes of America's Obesity Epidemic -- Besides Gluttony and Sloth By Daniel DeNoon (WebMD Medical News Reviewed By Louise Chang, MD)
June 27, 2006
Obesity isn't all about eating and inactivity, says an international group of researchers.
Just about everywhere you look, doctors are blaming America's obesity epidemic on two things: too much food -- especially widely marketed fast food and junk food -- and too little exercise, with too much time in front of the TV.
But we're paying too much attention to the "big two," argue David B. Allison, PhD, director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham clinical nutritionnutrition research center, and his colleagues.
"The importance of the big two is accepted as established, and other putative factors are not seriously explored," they argue. "The result may be well-intentioned but ill-founded proposals for reducing obesity rates."
To stimulate debate, Allison and colleagues suggest 10 other possible causes of obesity. Their article appears in this week's online edition of the International Journal of Obesity.
It's well accepted that reduced physical activity and fast food are linked to obesity. But the evidence that these are the main causes of obesity is "largely circumstantial," Allison and colleagues say.
Obesity researchers should broaden their horizon, they argue. So the researchers propose 10 other explanations for obesity, which are also supported by circumstantial evidence.
Even if some of these causes have only a small effect, Allison and his colleagues say, they may interact in ways that greatly magnify their individual effects.
10 Causes of Obesity
The researchers put forth these 10 "additional explanations" for obesity:
Sleep debt. Getting too little sleep can increase body weight. Today's Americans get less shut-eye than ever.
Pollution. Hormones control body weight. And many of today's pollutants affect our hormones.
Air conditioning. You have to burn calories if your environment is too hot or too cold for comfort. But more people than ever live and work in temperature-controlled homes and offices.
Decreased smoking. Smoking reduces weight. Americans smoke much less than they used to.
Medicine. Many different drugs -- including contraceptives, steroid hormones, diabetesdiabetes drugs, some antidepressants, and blood pressure drugs -- can cause weight gain. Use of these drugs is on the upswing.
Population age, ethnicity. Middle-aged people and Hispanic-Americans tend to be more obese than young European-Americans. Americans are getting older and more Hispanic.
Older moms. There's some evidence that the older a woman is when she gives birth, the higher her child's risk of obesity. American women are giving birth at older and older ages.
Ancestors' environment. Some influences may go back two generations. Environmental changes that made a grandparent obese may "through a fetally driven positive feedback loop" visit obesity on the grandchildren.
Obesity linked to fertility. There's some evidence obese people are more fertile than lean ones. If obesity has a genetic component, the percentage of obese people in the population should increase.
Unions of obese spouses. Obese women tend to marry obese men. If there are fewer thin people around -- and if obesity has a genetic component -- there will be still more obese people in the next generation.
"We do not claim that all of the additional explanations definitively are contributors [to obesity] but only that they are as plausibly so as are the 'big two' and deserve more attention and study," Allison and colleagues conclude.
And the researchers' list of 10 doesn't exhaust the possibilities. There may be even more explanations, including: a fat-inducing virus; increases in childhood depression; less consumption of dairy products; and hormones used in agriculture.
So with these comments in mind I say that getting a good night's rest, and drinking plenty of water (especially before meals) are the two most natural things you could do to help in controlling your weight.

Stay away from white grains like pasta, bread, flour, and rice. When eating grains go for whole wheat, it’s a lot healthier and has fewer calories. When eating meat, always go for lean or extra lean if available. Also stay away from junk food – of course! But, don’t demonize it, because if you are the type who loves their chocolate bars and you completely cut yourself off, you’ll only want them more. Cut down you junk intake to once a week, and on the day you have that chocolate bar make a mental note to get an extra 15 minutes of exercise that day.
Make sure you drink lots of water; it helps your metabolism and hydrates your body (obviously). If you don’t drink enough water your body will think its going to be starved, and will go into “survival mode” – this’ll cause your body to retain all the water you do drink and all the fat it can get because its preparing to be starved. Also, drinking green tea every morning increases your daily metabolism by 17%. You can take vitamin b complex to increase your metabolism as well. Try eating 5 small meals a day to keep your metabolism working, and never skip breakfast! Skipping breakfast will slow your metabolism for the day!
When you snack only snack on fruits and veggies – they’re nutritious and delicious! And low in calories. My doctor recommended eating a slice of cheese with a piece of fruit as a snack so your also getting protein with your fruit. Try to stop eating after 7 pm, and only drink tea, milk, or water after that. This’ll prevent you from going to bed with food in your stomach that won’t be burned while you’re sleeping; it’ll just get turned into fat that you don’t want.
For exercise, make sure you get AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, but I’d recommend 60 minutes. Do cardio exercise every day as well as strength exercises like push ups and crunches. Combining the two exercises will help to prevent having saggy skin once you’ve lost weight. Swimming can be a good strength exercise if you like going to the pool or lake – it tones everything at once and its fun! While you’re doing cardio (like jogging or running) make a routine that’ll challenge you but not over work you. Try running for 5 minutes then walking for 5. If that gets too easy try running for 6 walking for 4 etc.
For the stretch marks if you want to really fade them go get some vitamin E oil and rub it onyour stretch marks every night. Also try taking vitamin B-complex, it helps in skin elasticity.
I'm sorry but the run thing is kind of adumb excuse. I just graduated with almost all A's and I still found time to go out for an hour and get some exercise, there's no way that you don't have a spare hour in your day/night where you're not doing homework. Try not watching tv. My boyfriend got rid of his cable and its the best thing that ever happened to me. I found myself with nothing else to do but go outside and exercise (not saying you should cut off your cable).
No matter what you have to make time for exercise or else you won't lose weight very fast, maybe 1 lb a week if you really eat healthy and only 1200 calories a day.
hope this helps.
Eat a little less than you usually do. Eat healthy and avoid junk food. I lost 4kgs in a few months just by doing that and i didn't even have to exercise extra.
I've heard that ash gourd juice is great for weight loss. Helps burn the calories. Good luck :)
ACV "apple cider vinegar" works wonders. I'm taking 2 TBSP with 8 oz of water before each main meal. I actually started taking the acv for my eczema. Not only has my eczema improved drastically, but as a bonus I have been loosing weight. I have been taking acv for under one week, and already lost 2 inches in my tummy.
I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!
Stop eating everything on your plate.
Eat half of what's you're served and that the other half home with you.
Xango and Tahitian Noni are Great for your diet too!
Love and Peace

Gonna try here but you need to spend some time researching healthy eating. First off, I lost forty pounds in six months last year without killing myself so realistically you can get close to your target. Lets cover this first as I have seen alot of misinformation above. Starving yourself will not work at all, in fact do the research, it does the opposite. When you eat one or two meals a day your body stores that food mostly as fat as it doesnt know when it will be fed again which is why not eating doesnt work. When you eat five or six small meals a day you are giving your body little shots of energy that will maximize your metabolism and give you a huge surge in your energy levels. If you really want to lose weight all you have to do is eat the right things. I know, but the healthy stuff is yucky, yada yada. BS. Here we go. Try this for one week, and if it doesnt work, listen to someone else. Weigh yourself tonight, not again until seven days. Ok now for the next seven days simply remember NOT to eat anything white....no white bread(only 15grain bread or 12), rice, pasta, sugar, flour. Next no junk food at all. Next NO FAST FOODS. Drink water. No sodas at all. Here is a sample diet for your day. Breakfast-raisin brand with fat free milk(thats the only white you are allowed) or oatmeal with water mixed with blueberries or strawberries, sweetened with splenda. mid morning- fruit or fat free yogurt or cottage cheese(the best but I hate it). lunch-grilled chicken sandwich with a fresh veggie or a multigrained bread sandwich with tuna fish or turkey/chicken breast or a salad with grilled salad(fat free dressing). Mid afternoon fruit or raw veggies as a snack. Dinner have a meal or lean meat(chicken, steak, pork) the trick is to grill it if possible, bake it or if you have to fry it but do it in a very light evo(extra virgin olive oil) veggies. As you can see that is alot of food in a day so you wont be starving. Become a label reader, its simple get stuff with very little fat, sugar and sodium. Now for the exercising....Set aside thirty minutes each day for a walk. stretch good before you start. if you walk outside go fifteen minutes then head back, marking how far you went. Every other day pick up the pace but stay with the thirty minutes. Basically strive for increasing distance in the same time. Eventually you can progress to mixing some jogging with the walking. The key for you is to build up. Dont let it bother you if you only walk a mile just increase it but dont over do it. MAKE IT FUN NOT A TASK. Ride a bike on some days. Take stairs instead of elevators when possible. Most importantly get a folder or piece of paper and begin writing down what you do each day and look at it every day to make you want to build up. Dont get wrapped up in setting huge goals, set small ones for the week and achieve. The eating habits are the most important. Also check out the lean cuisine dinners as they have some awesome ones with less than four grams of fat and actually taste good. All those diets are most gimmicks. I have taken the time to tell you this because it worked for me and I have a friend who started this the first week of jan and he has lost thirty five pounds to date. Everyone has given up on you? Time for you to raise your head look in the mirror and make a pack with yourself to do this for you, and no one else. I know you can do it, and if you just give this a try for a week you will see enough results to keep it up. As i said at the top do some research, visit some nutrition sites, but stay away from the gimmicks. Dont hop on those scales everyday, only do that about once every two weeks. There will be days when you dont feel like doing it, look at the calender at that date that you are dreaming of, thats your motivation, but hopefully you will come to realize that taking care of yourself is for you and your family as well. Good luck. Chin up, go for it.
