Topic: Dirtbike starting problem?
June 20, 2019 / By Aura Question:
i have finished rebuilding my 1985 cr250, i have set up the carb, but the ***** wont start until i put some petrol directly in to the head and put the plug back in. after i do this it will start first time every time through the day, until i try to start it up the next day and have to do it all over again, the choke doesn't work but it should still start in the mornings, as you can imagine this is a bit of a pain to do every morning.
thanks to anyone who can help.
the avarage temp here is around 3 to 4 degrees celcius

"the choke doesn't work but it should still start in the mornings" - who gave you that misinformation?
All bikes require the choke to start a cold engine.
Repair the choke and all your problems will be solved.

I had this problem too when I was 16, I solved it by earning the money to afford the bike and the gear. If you can show your parents that you are responsible enough to earn a $1000 to buy the bike and the gear, you will have a much better chance of convincing them to let you get one. Asking them everyday for a bike is useless.they are usually more worried about the finacial part then you actually riding. Right now I recommend you ask them to let you get a job or ways to make money. (I personally mowed lawns and worked for someone leading ponies around at birthday parties) when I showed them I could handle the financial part they were much more understanding.
Remember it is not cheap to ride either, gas is expensive, although a 110 will not consume a ton of gas, tires, oil and other up keep. Plus its easy to bend bars, break clutch or brake levers ect. It's not a cheap sport and might take some hard work from you. However coming from your shoes, it is worth every once of sweat I put in to get my first bike.
I assume that your bike does not have a real "choke" but probably has an enrichener device. which is basically like a little carburetor within your carburettor. On most so equipped carbs there is a brass straw that fits down a hole in the wall of the float bowl. In the bottom of that hole there may be a small brass jet, make sure that it is clean and not plugged up, this is where the enrichening circuit draws its fuel from.

well the choke is a big factor in the bike running properly cause it adjust the fuel flow so if you get that fixed i bet you, you wont have to be putting petrol in the bike EVERY morning.

You don't mention how cold is it there.
I imagine it will run fine once you get the choke operating.
