You're going to need to set up an account with an online broker like Trade Monster, OptionsXpress, Etrade, etc. You'll buy stocks through their service and pay a service fee. You're new to this, so you're going to want to take some time to learn the ins and outs of investing before you drop money on this. I recommend visiting www.investopedia.com to learn some basics or to pick up some books. Maybe even take a few finance classes at your local community college. You're also going to want to do at least some basic research into what you're investing in. I recommend apps like Chaikin Power Tools and web sites like StockCharts.com, Google Finance and Yahoo Finance. You should also do a google search for "Free stock market simulator" - these will let you play around with fake money to see how well you do in the market before you get into it for real. Many online brokers will also allow you to open what is called a "Paper Trade" account - these are free and give you fake money to "invest", allowing you to see how your decisions do without spending any actual money.

Investing money where you cannot touch it for a number of years is called BEING SILLY. What if your money is tied up for several years at a fixed rate of interest (pretty low right now) and interest rates start to go up in 2-3 years time? Or if inflation rises?
