Question: I've had my Mac for ages and never used the mail application? Whenever i ask, Everyone tells me a different way, and someone told me to setup an account in www.me.com but i have to pay for that! and i already spend more than a thousand bucks for this laptop i dont want to pay even more to use the apps that's just a rip off! Can someone give me simple solution to this problem? What EXACTLY should I write in the POP and the outgoing mail server, EXACTLY what should I write (please say it like you're explaining to a 4 year old because that's the only way I'll get it) Thanks a million

POP mail service is provided by your ISP. You would need to know the pop3 and SMTP data which your ISP will have on their website support area. I suggest you stick with a web based e mail server tho because a pop account downloads ALL mail directly to your PC before you even look at it. Good way to infect your computer. Keep in mind too, your Mac is NOT impervious to malware.

Anything online can be hacked if someone wants it badly enough. You can purchase secure online storage from several sources. If you want to keep the cost down store your data on 3 (or more) email accounts from different providers in an encrypted format. You can also get utilities that allow you to make folders (even partitions) on your hard drive invisible to anyone without the knowledge of their existence and how to view them. A Google search will tell you where to find the applications.

Is that a webmail account you are talking about? If yes, yes it's safer than just storing the files on your laptop, but still not very safe. If you want to keep private stuff on the laptop itself, use truecrypt: http://www.truecrypt.org/

in layman's terms... contact your service provider... they will give you the POP, and phoning apple might help to get things going... try mac forums, and www.apple.com .

First it depends on the email service you are using. Even after deleting your mail account the same might be in a dormant state for some time in a hope that you might return back. After that period the email account gets deleted and mails you get bounce back to the sender. Additional Details: Expiry of inactive email account also depends on the service provider. Some may be in weeks & some in months. Pls read the FAQ of your email provider.
