Question: http://www.wdtimes.com/news/national/image_6751ad41-35ad-533d-b4ca-e92992578086.html Terrorists fail in attack on Seattle Base and Day Care Center. Let me guess, were they Catholic, Jewish, Quaker or perhaps evern Presbyterian...? I wonder. I can't speculate, lest someone think me an islamophobe. Sandie and Yaya, I agree withy you that the KKK and other such groups are terrorists also, but when was the last time THEY took down three buildings with high-jacked jets? When was the last time they blew up an underground carriage? When was the last time they blew up a a commuter train? When was the last time they took over a tourist hotel and sexually mutilated the hostages before killing them? When was the last time they hijacked a school and sexually abused the children before killing them. When was the last time ANY KKK, Aryan Nation, or Timothy McVeigh type nut job tried anything on such a scale. We know who the enemy is, even if it is politically incorrect to say so. Mohammedans are a threat not just in America, but world wide. To fight terror, we must recognise and fight them.

Bush has used the 9-11 attack as his foundation for invading Iraq. He had two reasons for illegally and unconstitutionally attacking Iraq: his family held a personal vendetta against Hussein and wanted to 'settle the score'; and Dick Cheney wants all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands. There's never been any evidence that another terrorist attack is planned. It's Bush's paranoia, fed by his handler's ulterior motives. Those nameless, faceless sub-humans who really control the country have ordered Bush to go to 'war' for OIL - and to maintain the high profitability of our giant military-industrial complex. The wealthy elitists, special interest groups, lobbyists, and big business entities love war. It's profitable. Hence, after World War II demonstrated war's profit potential, politicians were bought and paid for, lobbyists were hired, and special interest groups were formed to promote and encourage war. That put the U.S. into the Korean Conflict, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Cold War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. To maintain such obscene profitability, another 'war' was needed, and Iraq became the target. Bush and his 'crack' Nazi-inspired Homeland Security Dept. has done nothing to keep us "safe". He has only stirred tension in the world, and shown the U.S.A. to be the biggest bully of them all. Bush's handlers knew about the 9-11 attack and chose to do nothing to prevent it. It was not in their best interests to avoid an event that would surely stir emotions and help persuade people that it was okay to invade Iraq. We have no interest in bringing democracy to Iraq; our only interest is that land full of easily-accessible OIL. Prediction: Bush's handlers will order him to invade Iran by the spring of 2007. Why? For the very same reason: OIL. Prediction: There will be NO TROOP WITHDRAWALS from Iraq until the U.S. has sucked every drop of OIL out of that country's sand. Why else would the U.S. be building the world's largest embassy on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the headquarters of the 'new' Iraqi government? We PLAN to be there for decades. Prediction: If a Democratic landslide is inevitable in 2008, Bush handlers will execute another 'terrorist attack' on U.S. soil and kill a few thousand more people (but this time it won't be in New York, Washington, or L.A.; it will be in the heartland, somewhere like Chicago or Indianapolis or St. Louis). Bush will then be ordered to declare martial law, claiming that a change in administrations would not be in the interests of 'national security'. This gives the Republicans time to groom Jeb Bush for a Presidential run. If you think I'm crazy, why not print this out and save it for a few years? Just to see how close I come to being right. -RKO-

Are you insane? "It was just one little terrorist group that pulled off a sucessful attack..." They attacked us in Lebanon in 1983, the attacked our embassy, they attacked the USS Cole, the bombed the World Trade Center in 1993, the commandiered 4 planes on 9/11. I too am a liberal Democrat but I am not a whack job. You need to open your eyes, if someone like you was to be put in the Whitehouse we would all end up dead. Bush HAS KEPT US SAFE and thank god when Bush is gone, no matter who replaces him, he will have created a homelend security department that hopefully will keep us safe for years to come. I always say, I want to see the changes our party is looking for in this country but I am smart enough to know that the Presidents FIRST PRIORITY must be to make sure we live long enough to see our dreams come true.

The real problem is that too many people in law enforcement do not correctly understand the causes and nature of terrorism. Terrorists may use political, social, and/or religous philosophies as their stated reasons or goals they hope to acheive, but that is merely window dressing--terrorists want only to hurt people and blow up things. At best, some terrorists choose that life to settle a personal score, even if that score was that their grandmother died in a raid 50 years ago. If you think terrorists have nothing for which to live, you are mistaken. Typically, they are *given* a reason--to further thier pet cause, regardless of the cost. Also, governments would be wise not to try to wage any sort of "war" on terrorism. Terrorism is one of those situations in which you cannot put the genie back in the bottle and has a long and varied history. You cannot fight terrorism; your only victories are that you might catch some perpetrators.

I agree with Yaya...you need to move on from your Muslim bashing...the KKK and Timothy McVey were Christians and the list goes on...a Terrorist is a Terrorist...it's as simple as that...

Tennyson Originally Answered: Whats it like living on base and serving in the military as active duty?
Hello Peter G. I wonder how old you are. You should not join the military because you expect to have the same freedom as a civilian to come and go as you please. No so in the military. In the military you don't get a "day off" because you ask for it. If you want time off you have to use your military leave time and get permission to be away from your duty section. You earn 2.5 days of leave a month. You are placed on a duty shift which might be regular days from Monday - Friday or you might work rotating shifts on days, weekends, evening (swings) and midnight (mids). You would work according to a duty schedule and them have a certain number of days off from duty. Examples are: working straight days and having Sat and Sunday off. Or, working rotating shifts with 6 days on and 3 days off. Or, working 9 days rotating and 3 - 4 days off. There are a variety of different standard work shifts depending on the size of the unit and its mission. Sometimes, during alerts and exercises (well almost all the times) you will work a 12 hour on and 12 hour off shift until the mission/exercise has terminated. If your brother's birthday is so important you will have to schedule your leave time so you can go home for it. But, is his birthday anymore important than your own birthday? Are your family and friends going to spend money to come to your military base, get a motel room, and take you out to dinner on your birthday? While birthdays are important milestones they are no longer the "gosh - gee whizz" events like when you were a child. Getting papers? What does that mean? Newspapers? Sure they are available. When you are not working you usually do what most people do. You sleep, you get gas for your car, you go to the movies, you go to a hobby shop, you go bowling at the base bowling alley, you go shopping in the BX/PX and commissary. You wash your car. You go into town and try to meet girls! You go to whatever events in the local community you like to attend. You go to the library. You go play golf on base. You go to the base swimming pool. You go to the base gym. You go get a haircut every 7 days, You go fishing. You go to the campgrounds. You play softball or basketball on the unit's team against other unit's teams (Intramural sports). You go attend college courses on base in the evenings 2x a week for 2 hours a time. You do your homework. You go to church. You watch some TV. You write letters home to girlfriends and parents. Is that enough activities for you? You are definitely not trapped. Who told you that? You always know what your work hours are. There are printed schedules and you had better show up for work or be AWOL. You always know what you are doing because you are doing your military job. That's what you do. Maybe you are watching too many old time military movies from WWII. Best wishes, Larry Smith Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.) First Sergeant
