Do i have to take antidepressants if i am prescribed them or?
Topic: Do i have to take antidepressants if i am prescribed them or?
June 16, 2019 / By Coriander Question:
I heard that you automatically get prescribed antidepressants for saying that you have ever been suicidal. I said I did and I got them prescribed. The thing is I'm not sure im depressed enough to take antidepressants and I'd really prefer not to. I would prefer to maybe just do therapy.
I told them I was feeling kinda depressed but very anxious most of the time. I feel fine some days and some days I feel miserable. The person I saw and talked to at the mental health clinic was a nurse practitioner, how much do these people know about depression and anxiety?
Can I choose not to take these pills? I took one the day they got prescribed and it made me feel like crap. I lay in bed all day until I fell asleep. It was almost the feeling you get when hungover. I am very skeptical about wether they work or not and dont want to be taking pills that mess around with my head and body I mean what if I end up worse???
any information will help, thanks in advance
This is a military hospital for veterans, as i am a navy "veteran", i say it like this cus i dont feel like one. I was only able to do two years in which most of what I did was train but when it came down to the real deal i fell apart and now i feel like a freakin mess i can not function when it comes to things that are important like looking for a job, doing well on an interview, and such things...im hoping to start college in february and hopefully ill at last do well at that....
im just scared theyre going to say that i am not taking the treatment serious or that theyll be like well you have to try it at least, and then i get hooked cus even though the lady said theyre not addictive ive heard of many people who HAVE gotten addicted...im just scared...n now im just blabbing my mouth off..... :/
n merry xmas to you too!

Unfortunately these tablets can take up to 6 weeks to kick in, depending on type/dose etc etc. It's important that you take each day and keep in regular touch with your doctor/health clinic.
Of course at the end of the day, taking the tablets is entirely up to you, but if you do decide not to take the tablets, let the doctor/clinic know so that an alternative treatment can be looked at. Not every treatment for anxiety/depression needs to be in the form of medication, but in alot of cases the medication can help with the treatment.
Make a list of the pro's and con's and maybe keep a diary or track of any side effects. This way, if this tablet doesn't work, you can go back and request another type. It's all in your hands, best of luck:)

You don't have to take them.
Use the effective natural core treatments for depression at * http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_27.html (note the post about MEDICATION & DEPRESSION as well)and page B. If using a RECOMMENDED* brand of St. John's Wort, take with meals to avoid possible stomach upsets; check out the websites on St. John's Wort via page B, and if using UP TO 50mg of 5-htp daily in addition (or UP TO 200mg of 5-htp if NOT using the wort) take with a very low protein meal, to maximise the amount crossing the blood/brain barrier, with no, or extremely little protein 2 hrs before, to 2 hrs afterwards. Alternatively, take SAMe with the core treatments, but don't use anything else. They all have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects as well as antidepressant ones, and anxiety is addressed on pages 1, (also see the post about PTSD; take the quiz; see page Q if indicated) & i at 8m.com. Passionflower (as directed, or 1 drop in a cup of warm water, 4 times daily; view http://altmedicine.about.com/od/anxiety/a/passionflower_benefits.htm?nl=1 ) may be helpful, short term. I'd avoid medications, except as a last resort, and even then, only use temporarily, as they don't address the causes, merely (imperfectly) treat the symptoms. Learn and employ the relaxation techniques (begin with Progressive Muscle Relaxation) and the EFT variant for use in public places, in case it is needed there.
View www.wikihow.com COLLEGE. Hypnosis is merely a heightened state of suggestibility, in which you are better able to communicate with your subconscious mind. 85% of people are suggestible to some degree; 15% - 20% highly so, and 15% - 20% aren't much at all, so you could either preferably seek professional hypnotherapy, or, if not an option, hypnosisdownloads.com has one about overcoming interview anxiety.

it sounds like you have gotten the wrong medication.you need to be ''brutally'' honest about your emotions. the therapist can not make a proper diagnosis unless you do your best to help yourself by being honest. saying all kind of things that mislead the therapist can lead to an improper diagnosis, which can lead to the wrong medications prescribed.you do not need to take these meds, until you have been back to the therapist and ''come clean'' with him or her. otherwise, you may take something for a disorder that you dont have.god bless.

Try to go see your own doctor. I am no doctor, and probably the others who will reply to this are not either. You definitively are not in the correct state of mind. It is important you make sure you are on the correct drugs.

If a dr diagnosed her as depressed, she probably is. It doesn't mean she's crazy, it's just a chemical imbalance in the brain. Very common and nothing to be ashamed of.
I'm surprised that people you know did better w/o antidepressants. Because if you need them, they cause your brain to function better, not worse.
I don't know about Lexipro. I have clinical depression and Zoloft (a.m.) with Trazodone (p.m.) works for me. So if Lexipro doesn't work for your GF, ask her dr if she could take the above. With the right meds, she will be much better, sleep better, have more self confidence and hope (rather than fear) of the future.
It's also possible that her giving her drugs willy nilly has messed up her system. Diuretics are very bad,
forcing liqiuid out of your body.
You could also benefit from a session or two with a counselor to understand depression, the tricky female system and help you keep your overbearing thoughts to yourself. Ladies need patience and tenderness.
