Question: I have purchased tons of books on College Essays and other things of the same topic. I'm currently a freshman with usually a's and b's I take CP classes. I also take a class at my local community college, by the end of high school I will be a web design specialist. I am wondering what sports and clubs does Harvard really look at? Also what community service can I do and how many hours?

Harvard will look closely at all of your extracurricular activities. They'll be looking for achievement, excellence, competitiveness and leadership. They'll want to see that you took advantage of the opportunities that were available to you. (Someone from a small town in the middle of nowhere will have fewer opportunities than someone from a big city or a wealthy family, but they will take that into consideration.) Follow your own interests, but delve deeply into whatever it is that you are interested in. The same thing applies for your community service.

Harvard turns down thousands of unweighted 4.0 students, perfect SAT scorers, and valedictorians every year. At the moment, you're an average applicant to a top school. You need to find some way to make yourself stand out - like getting some of the stuff you're writing published. That would help a lot. Don't bother joining every club - colleges know resume padding when they see it. They'd rather see you get really involved in a few things rather than join everything.

It is all very spectacular however it could now not be ample. I'm now not seeking to placed you down. All I am pronouncing is that I carried out to Harvard with a four.three, a 2450 SAT a 34 ACT, and a bit extra extracurricular routine than you've, and I used to be placed at the ready record. I did not get into the institute, however I did get into Yale. You nonetheless have plenty of time to upgrade regardless that. Apply to as many faculties as viable. If you preserve up the well paintings, you'll absolutely get into an overly well tuition. Good good fortune, and I wish you get what you desire!

Honestly, while a 26 on the ACTs is nothing to be ashamed of, it's low by Ivy League standards - low enough that you'd need something amazing on your resume to get them to look at anything else before moving on to the applicants with scores in the 32+ range. Obviously you've got plenty of time to bring it up, but know the level of competition you're up against and consider your safeties carefully.

If you're getting "As and Bs", you won't make it to Harvard. If you want to increase your chances of getting to a prestige university, enroll in IB (International Baccalaureate) and pre-IB.

The truth? You live in a small town. Everyone knows you have a baby and you left your job after you had the baby. Everyone probably expects that you'll have lots of "baby drama" and will need time off whenever the baby gets a cold or if and when you have a 2nd child, you'll decide to up and quit again. It's harsh, but it happens. I have three kids ages 6 and younger. I never even mention them at work, because sadly, it hurts women in the workplace to have kids. Guys can take time off for work for hunting season or whatever, but god forbid I ask for a day off to go on a field trip with my daughter's class. As soon as I mention "kids" at work, I can see the panic in my boss's eyes.

If you're only applying to administrative jobs, try to broaden your searching efforts and try a different field. Even though you may not experience in other fields, you could still have the qualities that are needed in certain positions. Look at marketing jobs that don't require too much experience. Or hotel opportunities where you can put your office work to use. Just expand your horizons and look at different industries. Did you also try temp agencies? Although you won't always be guaranteed a job, at least the agency will always have you in mind for something that comes along. Are you looking at other job sites too instead of just the popular ones? Instead of craigslist or monster or careerbuilder, try smaller known sites. Or even try freelance jobs where you can help write for someone. And don't forget your school's job board! The link below has suggestions on which smaller sites to look at, and I found them to be useful as well.
