Jehovah's Witnesses ONLY. What do you think? Topic: Jehovah's Witnesses ONLY. What do you think?

Question: If someone asked you why he should keep praying if God does not intervene ... what would you tell him? Scriptures would be appreciated. Just to add ... we know Jehovah intervenes concerning global matters and the protection of his people as a group. If prayer is for help and guidance and we know he does not intervene on a personal basis .. what does prayer accomplish?

I would share with them the following article, especially the last subheading answers, & discuss all the Scriptures in it: Divine Intervention---What Can We Expect? - Is Intervention the Norm? - "Time & Unforeseen Occurrence" > How God Intervenes Today http://watchtower.org/e/20031001/article_02.htm The following two-pair of articles (based on several Scriptures), answers your further question regarding Prayer: "Does Praying Do Any Good"? : - Why do People Pray? - Does Anyone Hear Prayers? - Are All Prayers Heard? http://watchtower.org/e/20001115/article_01.htm "WHY Should You Pray"? - Prayer Can Solve Problems - When All Prayers Will Be Answered http://watchtower.org/e/20001115/article_02.htm "The Power of Prayer" - - Not All Requests Are Granted - - A Time for Spiritual Healing http://watchtower.org/e/20000301/article_01.htm "God Does Answer Prayers" - Modern-day Examples - What If You Feel Unworthy to Pray? http://watchtower.org/e/20000301/article_02.htm

I would ask him why he prays in the first place, is it just to demand things from God, and only want his own way, or does he want a real friendship/relationship with God, if it's the latter then he would need to keep communicating with God as his friend through prayer, so is he saying that He doesn't want to talk to God if God doesn't give him what he wants? That sounds a bit selfish doesn't it? Jehovah certainly does not leave his loyal friends without any help or protection. 5 years ago I suffered a calamity in my life, which has changed my life totally overnight, and I am still affected by it to this day, but I still pray to Jehovah even though Jehovah has not yet removed the effects of this calamity from my life, and Jehovah is helping me cope every day.

This is what I would say: "But God does answer prayers. It may not be what you are wanting or even expecting, but, He is the Hearer of Prayers. Are you Praying for something that is proper to ask for? Is it in line with His will? Do you worship the true God? Are you directing your prayers to the one true God, Jehovah?" It would depend on how well this person and I know each other, our relationship. As to what and how I would say and or ask, what I would say and or ask. Make Sure and AngelMusic1914 have already given Scripture. Jehovah God does not leave His loyal ones. In 2001 my son went into the military. I did not stand by his decision. I stood upon the truth of Jehovah's will for mankind. In time my son had an altercation with another young man. The two got into trouble, with the military. Both committed the same offense. My son was sent home to me, safe and Alive. The other woman's son....did not. The unit was eventually sent to Iraq, the young man was killed when the truck ran over a roadside bomb. Why was my son spared? and hers not?

Paul suffered from a "thorn in his side" 2 Corinthians 12: 7 an angel of Satan to keep slapping me that I might not become over exalted." When Jesus was being tormented and suffering, Jehovah felt pain, but he did not interfere, Sometimes we go through tough times, and we plead with Jehovah to help us, he does help many times just not in the way we expect, Hebrews 12: 1 So, then, because we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run the race that is set before us. 2 As we look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus. For the joy that was set before him he endured a torture stake, despising shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Indeed, consider closely the one wh has endured such contrary talk by sinners against their own interests, that you may not get tired and give out in your souls. 4 In carrying on your contest against that sin you have never yet resisted as far as blood, 5 but you have entirely forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons: "My son, do not belittle [the] discipline from Jehovah, neither give out when you are corrected by him." 6 For whom Jehovah Loves he disciplines; in fact, he scourges every one whom he receives as a Son." 7 It is for discipline you are enduring. God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is he that a father does not discipline? *8 But if you are without the discipline of which all have become partakers, you are really illegitimate children and not sons. 11 True, no discipline seems for the present to be joyous, but grievous; yet afterward to those who have been trained by it, it yields peaceable fruit, namely; righteousness.

I am not an ex-JW nor have I ever been a JW, but I have seen the same thing many times and here is one example: 1984 "The Catholic Church occupies a very significant position in the world and claims to be the way of salvation for hundreds of millions of people. Any organization that assumes that position should be willing to submit to scrutiny and criticism." {AWAK Aug 22 1984 28} 1983 "A third requirement is that we be associated with God's channel, his organization. God has always used an organization.. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it." {WT Feb 15 1983 12} [compare with "For the same reasons that Jesus did not organize congregations while present with his disciples in the Jewish harvest, we do not consider expedient or necessary organizations even simple and unsectarian as those established by the apostles." {WR Oct 1883 536}] 1983 "And just as in the first century there was only one true Christian organization, so today Jehovah is using only one organization. (Ephesians 4:4, 5; Matthew 24:45-47) Yet there are some who point out that the organization has had to make adjustments before, and so they argue: 'This shows that we have to make up our own mind on what to believe.' This is independent thinking. Why is it so dangerous? Such thinking is an evidence of pride. And the Bible says: 'Pride is before a crash, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.' (Proverbs 16:18) If we get to thinking that we know better than the organization, we should ask ourselves: 'Where did we learn Bible truth in the first place? Would we know the way of the truth if it had not been for guidance from the organization? Really, can we get along without the direction of God's organization?' No, we cannot!.. Fight against independent thinking." {WT Jan 15 1983 27} [compare with "For the same reasons that Jesus did not organize congregations while present with his disciples in the Jewish harvest, we do not consider expedient or necessary organizations even simple and unsectarian as those established by the apostles." {WR Oct 1883 536}] They use the Catholics words of salvation and say they should be willing to submit to scrutiny and criticism while the JW's are saying the same thing but The JW's must be submissive to their leaders and not do as they say as they are unwilling to submit to scrutiny and criticism that the preach. Is this not hypocritical, do as I say not as I do. The JW's have a long history of attacking the Catholics while borrowing from them such as listed about. The JW's also believe that it's the organization only that can understand the bible, as it is with the Catholics. You are so right, you have the freedom of choice and you should not choose simply because your family thinks it's right. You must think it's right, or it is not right for you. Anyhow, I think you are very much on the right track, so keep the faith, it's your faith, not mine, not your family's but yours. That's your personal relationship with God and that's how it's meant to be. God bless!
